1908 Sovereign. Issued in the year London hosted the Summer Olympic games.
The 1908 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the IV Olympiad, and commonly known as London 1908, was an international multi-sport event held in London, United Kingdom, from 27 April to 31 October 1908.
This coin was minted in London in 1908 and would have been used as a circulation coin at that time.
The obverse of the coin is a portrait of Edward VII created by the highly regarded George William de Saulles who became the "engraver to the mint" in 1893 and from that time to his death produced dies for British and colonial coins and for official medals.
The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's timeless masterpiece, a depiction of St George and the dragon, which was created for the new gold Sovereign of 1817.
